Moldova has requested Russia to continue help in providing food grade wheat, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry told Infotag. This time, Chisinau is asking 40 thousand tons in the hope that 10,000 tons might be supplied as a humanitarian assistance, and the rest 30,000 tons - at a moderate price.
In October-December, Moldova already received 10,000 tons as a humanitarian help - out of the total amount of 50,000 tons which Russia had preliminarily agreed to supply to help mitigate this year's poor harvest due to a severe drought. However, in Russia itself the grain situation is fairly complicated at the moment. Some Russian companies are offering Moldova to obtain grain on advantageous credit terms, but the official Chisinau does not want to further build up the country's external debt.
At the same time, Moscow recommended to Moldova to not forget Transnistria. Russian Deputy Premier, Minister of Agriculture Alexei Gordeyev told President Vladimir Putin this Monday that Russia had completed the promised delivery of humanitarian grain - 10 thousand tons of wheat. "We recommended to Chisinau to take Transnistria into account, and distribute the grain proportionally to the population living in that region", Gordeyev said.
