The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) today handed in its 120 thousand-euro gift to Cancer Institute of Moldova - a state-of-the-art computer tomograph - within the program of the IAEA cooperation with this republic.
The presentation ceremony today was attended by Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin who said that a special attention to this Institute was dictated by its significance for the entire health system of Moldova.
"The objectives we have set for 2004, which we have named a Health Protection Year, have been practically achieved", the head of state announced.
He emphasized the positive effect reached upon the introduction of compulsory health insurance. "This effect is proved both by statistical data and by citizens themselves", he said.
The President said health services have become more accessible to citizens, health institutions are now better provided with medicaments and hospital patients - with a better nutrition, and salaries to health sector employees have been increased. In 2005, health sector financing will be doubled.
