IMASinc Chisinau, CIVIS, and CBS-AXA - organizers of exit polls on March 6 - have dismissed speculations about their "playing into somebody's hands".
At some point, several political parties and non-government organizations claimed that publishing exit poll results might affect the final outcome of the elections. Exit poll organizers, they claimed, "act in concert with the Communist party."
Speaking Thursday at an Infotag news conference director of IMASinc Chisinau Doru Petruti said "there's too much lack of understanding surrounding these polls."
"Many people are confused thinking that exit polls are run by Institute of Public Policies (IPP)."
"IPP has just initiated the project that is now taken over by three independent organizations - IMASinc Chisinau, CIVIS and CBS-AXA," he said.
He also dismissed speculations about exit polls being "booked" by Central Electoral Commission.
"CEC has no authority to do that. We merely informed them of our intentions to hold exit polls and have nothing against other organizations doing the same," held Petruti.
The polls will be taken at 220 polling stations by 750 operators holding special badges. On exits voters will be invited to fill out unmarked ballots (indicating names of their candidates) and put them in special boxes. The first exit poll results will be announced after 21.00 hrs immediately after the closure of polling stations.
Exit poll organizers expressed hope for support from media workers whose mission, they said, is "to inform voters about the results of exit polls held in Moldova for the first time."
