The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) seeks from Russia to urgently withdraw its military presence from eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova.
EU MPs adopted on Wednesday a number of recommendations addressed to the Russian Federation, in which they call on Moscow authorities to consolidate democracy in their country and to stop activities that endanger territorial integrity of the neighbor states. The document voted by PACE stipulates that Russian Federation must urgently withdraw its military presence from eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova.
PACE has also recommended Moscow authorities to consolidate the democracy, to ensure freedom of the press, to respect the principles of the Council of Europe, as member of this organization.
In the resolution adopted by the authors of the report on Russia, the Russian authorities are also called to comply with ECHR decision in case of Ilascu and others and to undertake necessary measures to put an end to the arbitrary detention of those two political prisoners, Andrei Ivantoc and Tudor Petrov-Popa and to guarantee their immediate release as ECHR ordered.
Also on 22 June, PACE decided to continue monitoring the Russian Federation until it will convince itself of cogent progresses in carrying out all the Assembly’s recommendations.
The document approved at the PACE session was presented by European MPs David Atkincon (the UK, European democratic Group) and Rudolf Bindig (Germany, socialist Group).
