Sheriff Tiraspol team qualified for the second preliminary round of UEFA Champions League after it defeated the Maltese team Sliema Wanderers in the second stage of the first preliminary round by 2 to 0. The goals were scored by Ben Idrissa Derme, in the 78th minute, and Razvan Cocis, in the 83rd minute. The match was played on “Sheriff” stadium in Tiraspol and was refereed by Mustafa Culcu from Turkey.
The Tiraspoleans dominated the match (two goals scored by Alexandru Epureanu and Oleg Gumeniuc were annulled by the referee on the grounds of offside), but managed to score only at the end of the game. The first leg was also won by the Moldovan team, 4-1. Thus, in the second preliminary round Sheriff will play with the champion of Serbia and Montenegro, Partizan.
The first match will take place on 2 or 3 August, in Belgrade.
