Moldova seeks from the OSCE member states to intervene in the security zone and to condemn the obvious violations of the fundamental human rights in the region.
According to a communique of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI), this appeal was made by the delegation of the Republic of Moldova at the meeting of the OSCE Standing Council that was held on Thursday in Vienna.
The Moldovan delegation informed about the situation created in the security zone and underlined the inefficiency of the mechanisms for ensuring the security and fundamental human rights.
“The separatist regime in Tiraspol is responsible for blocking the activity of the Unified Control Commission (UCC), as well as for tensing the situation in the security zone by continuously restricting the owners’ access to the agricultural lands located in the vicinity of Dorotcaia village,” the quoted source said.
In Moldovan delegation’s opinion, the tolerance of the situation and harassment of the local population by the separatist regime’s structures is unacceptable.
The Moldovan delegation also asserted that the UCC’s incompetence is another proof of the outdated character of the so-called peacekeeping operation and reiterated the necessity of transforming the existing mechanism into an international organization made up of civilians and military observers under OSCE mandate. The delegation reiterated Moldova’s request to organize an international observation mission to assess the situation in the security zone.
After the visit of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Dmitrij Rupel to Tiraspol, the foreign minister of the so-called Transdniestrian republic was quoted by Olvia-press as saying that he does not consider the discussion of the issue regarding the modification of the peacekeeping mission in the security zone as necessary.
