During the week of 15-19 May, a group of American medical specialists will conduct vaccinations for chicken pox and will provide dental fluoride treatments for children in 25 schools and orphanages in 11 towns and villages across Moldova.
This is the first time that chickenpox vaccine has been given in Moldova. About 4,686 children will receive dental treatments and 2,710 will be vaccinated.
The program is organized by the Bilateral Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy and involves North Carolina National Guard personnel, two volunteer professors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Dental School, Peace Corps volunteers, as well as, Moldovan medical specialists.
Chickenpox is a disease, especially of children, that causes a slight fever and many spots on the skin. The recovery lasts about 12 days.
