"The Republic of Moldova and Georgia reiterate the necessity of respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all the states, as well as the inviolability of the international border. In this context, we make efforts to eliminate the danger of aggressive separatism, in order to settling the conflicts from our states that are imposed from the outside," mentions the Statement "Against Europe's black holes", signed Wednesday in Chisinau by President of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Voronin and Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvily.
The statement reads that conflict zones and separatist regions have become in Moldova and Georgia “black holes” and they are openly supported from the outside. “These territories function as criminal refuge where the contraband of a large scale enriches the corrupted leaders, while the population lives in poverty, where the fundamental human rights are violated, where arms smuggling and human kidnapping are considered as something usual,” considers the Presidents of Moldova and Georgia.
According to Voronin and Saakashvily, “the presence and direct involvement of foreign army” was the main catalyst for the territorial conflicts in both countries. “The withdrawal of the Russian army from the territory of our states is even in Russia’s interest; good relations with Russia is an important priority for Moldova and Georgia,” runs the statement.
Voronin and Saakashvily stated that both states will undertake common diplomatic actions on international scale oriented against the aggressive separatism.
At the end of the document the sides have mentioned that they will plead for a society in which “the rights of all the citizens are respected, no matter of their ethnicity, political and confessional identity, where cultural-linguistic rights of national minorities are ensured and protected.” Voronin and Saakashnily have pronounced themselves for the settling of the conflicts “exclusively peacefully, respecting the interests of all the persons that live on that territories.”
“The main objective of the Republic of Moldova and Georgia is the conclusion of the integration process in EU. Let us all together join the Europe and contribute to the ending of the third wave of Europe's liberation,” mentions the statement in conclusion.
